Tokyo only. This tour begins from 4 a.m.

A certified guide takes you around Tsukiji Market in an enjoyable and safe atmosphere. The guide also helps you shop in a small group. Languages supported are English, French, Spanish, Chinese, and others.

The Tsukiji Market is most famous for its fish market, but there are also ten wholesale markets that handle a large portion of the meat, flower, and and produce distribution to restaurants in Tokyo and the surrounding area. The Tsukiji Fish Market is one of the largest fish markets in the world, with over 480 types of and over 2,000 tons of seafood products being handled daily.

In this tour you can watch a tuna auction which is the main highlight. Only 120 visitors are permitted to watch per day. Before the tuna auction, your guide will explain how the market is operated and how the auction is carried out, as well as about the market, the surrounding area, and the restaurants in the outside portion of the market, famous for sushi and other seafood specialties.

At 5:30 a.m. or 6:00 a.m., the tuna auction starts. Many very large tuna fish are laid out on the concrete floor, and auctioneers from wholesale companies start the auctions. Fish brokers start to bid on the tuna, which they have examined closely with flashlights before the auction. The auction can get dramatic, with tuna selling for thousands of dollars.

After watching the tuna auction, we will eat sushi. If you would prefer to eat some other type of food at the market, that can be arranged also.

After breakfast, you will visit side streets inside and outside of the market. There are many retail stores handling fish,  seaweed, green tea, porcelain, kitchen knives, clothing and so on.

Optional:
