The National Art Center, Tokyo
This center located in Tokyo has no permanent collection, except the building itself, which is extremely modern in design, but is a unique and innovative art exhibition facility.
The Edo-Tokyo Museum gives an interactive view of Tokyo's past (the Edo period) and an in-depth look at the city that we see today. The museum's interactive exhibits outline the culture, politics, and way of life from Edo until current day.

The Ainu Museum Porotokan
The Ainu are Japan's indigenous people, originally from Hokkaido. This museum takes a look at their culture and history in an open-air museum that is a recreation of an Ainu village. Each structure in the village displays a certain aspect of Ainu history and culture.

The Miho Museum has an amazing private collection of world art with over 2,000 pieces (usually 250 or so pieces at a time are on display) housed in a beautifully unique building designed by I.M. Pei.

The Adachi Museum of Art
The Adachi Museum of Art houses a diverse collection of modern Japanese art. Aside from its art, the museum has an on-site Japanese garden that compliments the many landscape paintings by Yokoyama Taikan.
