Not your typical lunch.
Obento are as beautiful as they are tasty.
A trip to Japan isn't complete without eating obento. If you are taking a long distance train somewhere, we recommend you to buy an obento at the station and enjoy it on the train!
Eki-ben is short for eki-bento: eki meaning "station," and bento meaning "portable lunch." Almost all major train stations in Japan sell their original eki-ben, which usually includes a regional cuisine or locally harvested ingredient. Trying out these bentos (and eating them on the train!) is part of the fun of train traveling in Japan.
Kyara-ben is short for "character bento." This is when foods are made to look like popular children's characters from anime.
